According to the American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), on September 14, Trump disclosed the results of his physical examination to the host Dr. Mehmet Oz during the recording of the TV program "The Dr. Oz Show". The program will be broadcast on Thursday local time in the United States.
Before the recording of the show, Trump’s campaign aides stated that Trump’s medical records would not be released during the recording of the show. However, after the show ended, "The Dr. Oz Show" issued a press release confirming that Republican candidate Trump had indeed disclosed some personal medical record information on the show.
According to a statement released by the program, Trump showed host Dr. Oz the results of a physical examination he went to see Dr. Harold Bornstein at Lenox Hill Hospital last week. Dr. Burns, who has been Trump's personal physician for decades, previously issued a health certificate saying Trump would be the healthiest president in history if elected.
An audience member at the recording site told CNN reporter MJ Lee that Trump said on the show that he wanted to lose another 15 pounds (about 14 pounds), and also introduced his usual exercise activities and eating habits to Dr. Oz. In addition, Trump repeatedly said on the show that he hoped Hillary would get better as soon as possible.
Another viewer, Kelly Platt, who claimed to be a Trump supporter, said that Dr. Oz found no health problems from the physical examination results given by Trump, and said that Trump's cholesterol had dropped to a relatively good state.
The New York Times stated that Dr. Oz also conducted a comprehensive examination of Trump during the show, including the nervous system, head and neck, hormone levels, cardiovascular health and related treatments, respiratory system, gastrointestinal system, bladder or prostate, skin and cancer history.
At the same time, Trump was also asked about his family medical history, such as whether any of his relatives have Alzheimer's disease, heart disease, or cancer. Trump’s father suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.
During the election, Trump had been questioning Hillary's health. His supporters also claimed that Clinton was deliberately hiding her health. However, in the past 15 months, Trump has never answered any questions about his health, except for a controversial health certificate released by his personal doctor Burns. Therefore, Trump's announcement to participate in "The Dr. Oz Show" and the release of the results of his medical examination last Friday was considered a big breakthrough.
However, Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway once told Fox News that she believed presidential candidates should not release medical record information on television.
Dr. Oz is a cardiothoracic surgeon who has worked in several top hospitals in New York and is currently a professor of surgery at Columbia University. He once served as a health expert on "Oprah's Talk Show" for a long time and was called "America's Doctor" by Oprah.
"The Dr. Oz Show" is a very popular health program in the United States. For one hour every day, Dr. Oz explains medical concepts and popularizes health knowledge in an easy-to-understand way. He has cultivated a large number of female viewers in the United States who love him. This is one of the reasons why the Trump campaign chose to participate in his show. Dr. Oz, meanwhile, has been criticized for using medically imprecise and sometimes exaggerated claims on his television show.
