After it was revealed that U.S. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton nearly fainted and fell while participating in a September 11 commemoration event on Sunday, discussions and speculation about her health have remained intense in recent days.
According to a poll conducted by YouGov authorized by Time Magazine, 46% of the respondents did not believe the explanation given by Hillary’s campaign team that she became unwell and fainted due to pneumonia and dehydration.
Among the 1,910 American voters surveyed by YouGov, another 45% believed Dr. Hillary’s explanation; and 9% were uncertain about such an explanation.
Nearly half of people are distrustful of Clinton's explanation of her health problems, which is not good news for her campaign. In two weeks, Hillary and Trump will hold their first presidential debate, and there are now less than two months until the general election vote.
The Hillary campaign team admitted that Hillary was diagnosed with pneumonia last Friday, but team members did not announce the situation in time. Hillary's media secretary Brian Fallon said that looking back now, we should have disclosed more information to the public and handled this issue better. The responsibility is ours and we apologize.
Hillary's team stated that more personal health information will be released in the next few days to further dispel public concerns and doubts, and insisted that apart from pneumonia, Hillary has no other health problems.
Despite Hillary's clear statement above, speculation about Hillary's health is still rampant. The British "Independent" reported that although Hillary's doctor said that her pneumonia had been treated and she was recovering well, conspiracy theorists still claimed that her health was far worse than reported and even had to use a stand-in on Sunday.
At noon on Sunday, Hillary, who was sent to her daughter Chelsea's apartment to rest after nearly fainting, walked out of the apartment door and told reporters that she felt fine. Conspiracy theorists say that this Hillary is just a stand-in and the real Hillary is still receiving emergency treatment.
They pointed out the differences between the "double" and Hillary, including differences in fingers, noses, earrings, etc. Some even named the stand-in as the well-known Hillary impersonator Teresa Barnwell. However, Barnwell quickly refuted this statement on Twitter, saying that he was in Los Angeles that day, not New York.
She tweeted, "Calm down everyone, I'll be in LA all day. You crazy conspiracy theorists have got people all mixed up. Take a shower and go to sleep. ”
