“If you have the chance, remember to watch it at night, it will show another visual effect under the light. ”After two sleepless nights, Pierre Roy-Camille finally installed the latest display window of the Hermès House. He should be the most qualified person to introduce it.
Every quarter, the French luxury brand invites artists to design windows for the five Maison Hermès stores around the world, namely Fubao Avenue in Paris, Madison Avenue in New York, Ginza in Tokyo, Dosan Park in Seoul, and the Huaihai Middle Road store in Shanghai. In this autumn, the artist who "contracted" the Hermès House in Shanghai is from France, named Pierre Roy-Camille.
“Hermès did not give keywords. ”He put plants, water and rocks into the display window and named it "Senhai Strange Stones". The autumn display window is divided into three parts: tropical jungle, ocean adventure and volcanic rocks. Set against the backdrop of the whirling French sycamore trees on Huaihai Middle Road, the strong exotic colors in the windows are difficult for passers-by to ignore.
The theme of Hermès in 2016 is "Ride among all things in nature", and soil, fire, water and air happen to be the most commonly expressed contents in Pierre Roy-Camille's artistic creation.
Although he was born in Martinique and moved to Paris when he was a teenager, his childhood memories still influence his creations. This tropical island in the Lesser Antilles, a French overseas region, is home to lush vegetation, beaches and volcanoes. It was once called "the most beautiful country in the world" by Columbus. Therefore, the most common theme in Pierre Roy-Camille's works is nature, especially tropical plants.
"Poetic" is the word most often used by most art commentators to describe his style. What he personally benefited most from this window design was the poetic sense of "both true and false". “For example, stones and leaves are very real; on the contrary, the stacked wall panels bring out the dreamy feeling of the stage. These leaves are put into the display window after drying. Each has its own color and story, which is very wonderful. ”He reminded: “You can see that for the first time mannequins appeared in the window of the Shanghai Hermès House, before that it was usually a set. ”
In order to design the display window, Pierre Roy-Camille spent nearly a year in preparation. Prior to this, he was known within the industry for his drawings, paintings, prints, murals, digital paintings, and video art. His relationship with Hermès was also due to his paintings, and he was later introduced to the window art director. Before this, Hermès rarely cooperated with graphic artists because it was difficult to display in the window space. Korean artist Kim Sun-ik, who is responsible for the spring windows of the House of Hermès in Shanghai, is good at sculpture; American artist Don Porcella, who uses chenille materials to create summer designs, is not only famous for his paintings, but also has great attainments in sculpture.
However, precisely because he did not have much experience, it gave Pierre Roy-Camille space to burst out new ideas, just like the leaves spread at the bottom of the window and the buoys floating on the "sea surface". “Now it seems that we have done quite well in terms of space utilization and arrangement. You can see every detail up close, and from across the road, the display window looks like a complete painting. ”
“For me, there may be no better way to get to know a city than through window displays. "Before the unveiling, Pierre Roy-Camille and a dozen Hermès employees worked hard for two nights to adjust and proofread all the details. "Watching the sunset and sunrise here is a unique experience." After finishing his work in Shanghai, he will also design the windows for the opening of the Hermès Dubai store.
